Accessibility
Visual MD is built for sustained reading. Accessibility is part of that reading experience, not an optional presentation layer. We publish support only for features we have verified across the app's common tasks.
Current support on Mac
- Dark Interface. Visual MD follows the Mac's appearance and includes coordinated light and dark reading themes.
- Differentiate Without Color Alone. Selection and state use labels, icons, checkmarks, or structure in addition to color.
- Sufficient Contrast. Every built-in theme is automatically checked so its ordinary text colors maintain a contrast ratio of at least 4.5 to 1 on the surfaces where they appear.
Readable document structure
Visual MD preserves the structure expressed by Markdown. Headings form a navigable outline, lists and task states remain distinct, links are named by their text, and author-provided image descriptions remain available to assistive technology.
What document authors control
The accessibility of a document still depends on how it was written. Descriptive headings, meaningful link text, image descriptions, and a clear heading order make a library easier for everyone to navigate. User-created themes are also outside the contrast guarantee applied to Visual MD's built-in themes.
Accessibility feedback
If an accessibility feature does not work as expected, open an issue on GitHub. Include your macOS version, the assistive setting or technology you use, the task you were trying to complete, and what happened. Please do not attach private documents unless they are necessary to reproduce the problem.
